On the whole, Remixes and Rarities is a fine way to while away a couple of hours and the variety of the mixes ensures that there’s plenty to lure in the casual listener while keeping the purist happy. On the other hand, the long version of Rosenmontag is just a tad too long and the singles medley was an unexpectedly awful “Flock on 45” moment – not the most elegant way to end what is a good collection of the band’s back catalogue. However, the band is extremely capable of crafting a fine, upbeat pop tune as evidenced by Heartbeat Like a Drum. I’ve always liked A Flock of Seagulls for their ethereal, otherworldly sound, although the nod to OMD on Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You) and the layers of the ever so slightly creepy Nightmares (which I swear Robert Smith must have had a hand in) really make these two tracks stand out in particular. I was particularly delighted by the addition of The Last Flight of Yuri Gagarin, which surely should be on all ISS astronauts’ playlists as they ride to the stars strapped to a Soyuz rocket. As you would expect, all the hits are there in various guises and so will please the casual listener, though there are some hidden gems such as a live rendition of The Traveller and the wonderful 12″ mix of Never Again (The Dancer). Having said that, the variety of mixes is well thought out and although the variety is limited, the track listing is spread out well so by the time I Ran comes round again there are at least two or three different tracks wedged between mixes. 7 hour(s) 43 minute(s) 5 minute(s) 16 second(s) Download restriction. The compilation itself is spread out over two hours, although with only nine different tracks on the album it does start to sound a bit contrived towards the end and is possibly more suited to the hardcore fans. The inlay booklet that accompanies the two CD set is nicely done, comprising a short overview of the band’s history, lyrics and discography. Die größten Hits in Deutschland waren 'I Ran' (1982), 'Wishing (If I Had a Photograph of You)' (1983) und 'The More You Live, The More You Love' (1984). Remixes and Rarities is a pretty comprehensive description of the album’s contents. A Flock of Seagulls ist eine britische New Wave-Band, die 1979 in Liverpool unter dem Namen Tontrix gegründet wurde. Still, who can resist mocking those sporting a certain type of floppy ‘do? Written, mixed and produced by Luca Roccatagliati and Davide FavuzzaĠ5.With a name that will always be synonymous with a certain style of haircut, it’s often easy to forget that A Flock of Seagulls were fairly major players in the early ’80s electronic scene and gave us some memorable hits into the bargain too. Written and produced by Luca Roccatagliati and Edoardo Cianfanelli Written, mixed and produced by Luca Roccatagliati Stay tuned for more solo and collaborative venture on Nang too. Finally, the jazzy track 'London' written with Jukka Reverberi could have been inspired by DJ Rocca's work with the critically acclaimed jazz musician Franco D'Andrea, with whom DJ Rocca created the 'Electric Tree Project' which fuses jazz and electronics.ĭJ Rocca has been touring his energetic sets globally over the last few years in clubs in Berlin, Paris, London, Oslo, Bruxelles, Vienna, Zurich, Bern, Helsinki, Brazil, Turkey and Croatia. 'Stone Town', written with Dimitri from Paris who is influenced by 1970s funk and disco, encompasses the marimba in keeping with the beachy feel of the record. 'Nassau', written with fellow Rome-based Rodion showcases sensual and percussive waves of synth, whereas 'Favignana', written with Kool Water (aptly named after an Island off the southern coast of Italy) takes you deep underwater through its distorted build-up. 'Isole' consists of eight eclectic songs the steady, deep beats of 'Alcatraz','Taquile' and 'Hong Kong' juxtapose the euphoric 'Tokyo', a warm sunset of a track. Now our friend gets his own spotlight to shine with his debut solo artist album, Isole. He has also remixed a whole host of artists such as Oliver Koletzki, Luke Solomon, Blaze and even Flock of Seagulls. Rocca has been around the dance music block a few times having collaborated with the likes of Howie B, Zed Bias, Daniele Baldelli and Jazzanova. Italian producer and musician DJ Rocca (AKA Luca Roccatagliati) is back on Nang.
